Purpose of Yoga

"As we grow older our body shrinks and the spaces between the body tissues and skeletal joints decrease. This anatomical distortion leads to physiological dysfunction, resulting in pathological changes. Regular practice of yoga stretches and strengthens the different muscle groups and creates space in the body. This helps to bring back to normal the physiological functioning of different anatomical systems, which enables nature to rearrange and repair the diseased parts of the body the natural way."-Dr. S. V. Karandikar

Classes

Yoga Basics , (Geri)
Starting yoga may be confusing to you at first with all the different positions that are taught. When you start yoga your instructor will go over the names of the postures to help you understand the importance of the position and the benefit that will take place.

The yoga poses are going to  teach you many things, including how to reduce and handle stress, understand life, and be in touch with your inner feelings. This does not happen after one session, so we encourage you to continue yoga on a regular basis in order to get the full result that is intended.

Yoga Solace believes in the ancient tradition of maintaining smaller classes so there is close student and teacher interaction (close guru-student exchange) , Practice focuses on combining correct breathing with both dynamic and  static  asanas .  They are modified and adapted according to each  particular circumstances.  We concentrate on the adaptation of yoga to the individual rather than the individual to Yoga.  Yoga Basics, as well as level one, will focus on building a strong foundation, incorporating many standing asanas.

Levels One and Two, and Alignment Yoga, (Geri)
In our level one and two classes we focus on symmetry and alignment. We use props such as straps, blankets, wooden blocks and chairs-to achieve postures. Each pose is held for a longer amount of time to facilitate in opening the body. We provide a healing non intimidating environment respecting the student's physical limitations. This type of Yoga has a deep healing effect on the Neurological, and Endrocrine system, balancing the immunological system so that the student starts to see results in a shorter period of time.  In these classes we will observe the physical holding patterns in the body, and encourage the body to release the tension so that healing can be effective.  It is important that the student understands this level, otherwise the holding patterns can still exist, even with substantial physical exercise. .

Therapeutic Yoga

Therapeutic yoga provides the restorative and therapeutic classes that concentrate on re-establishing the equilibrium in the body mentally and physically.  It enables to experience the feeling of relaxation, well being and connecting to what is important in life.

Important aspect of therapeutic yoga is devotion to detail with help of supporting equipment (blankets, foam and wooden blocks, straps, ropes, chairs - available during the class).

Systematic combination of restorative poses and essential breathing techniques with focus on individual parts of the body help to release tight muscles and obtain a good supply of blood, regenerate mobility and gain strength, while cultivating a sense of relaxation and awareness.  The body and mind are brought into an aligned, relaxed natural state, in which self-healing may occur spontaneously
